Well, the www. is replete with Drupal Vs Joomla sorta stuff and most of them conclude that one must pick the CMS that can serve one’s needs best. Most of these comparisons don’t provide any guidance on how users can pick the one according to their needs.

If you want to create your own website or blog and don’t have any previous experience of creating a website or managing its content, you will prefer a system that is simple and easy to use and with least technicalities involved. But how would you pick what can serve your purpose best? It’s true that you must determine your needs first to pick the right software package for your website, but how can you pick them without knowing their pros and cons.

To quantify their pros and cons, one must compare their performance and functional aspects, ease of use and learning, appearance and documentation.

However, apart from website owners, developers have certain preferences. In general, drupal developers seem quite satisfied with drupal content management system while Joomla developers seem to blow the trumpets of the available features and functions in Joomla. But here we are trying to find out which CMS is right for the general users and we are not comparing these two from a developer’s view point.

For those looking for better extensibility or want to run a large site, Drupal may prove a right pick for them. Many well known organizations of the world like the UN, the Discovery Chanel and Warner Brothers are using Drupal CMS for their sites mainly because of its effective security features. This CMS has also been rated higher than Joomla for its better documentation. Similarly, the users of this CMS reckon it better than Joomla when it comes to multimedia support, SSL, social networking and user management.

On the other hand, if you are not a geek, you may find Joomla a better option because of its ease of use in managing and maintaining your website. Joomla allows its users to upgrade maintain and publish their content with loads of ease and they often don’t need technical assistance when doing so.

Keep in mind that there is no cut and dried answer to find which content management system is better, as a lot depends on your website requirement.

Getting a search engine friendly website with effective content management system is something that we all dream about. Well, if something can help to realize your dream, it’s none other than the open-source Drupal content management system. With this CMS, individuals, user communities and enterprises can organize, publish and manage content of their websites in an effective and easy way. There are thousands of people and enterprises that making the most of Drupal to power myriad variety of websites.

You may ask why you should use Drupal when other CMS like WordPress, Joomla and many other seem to do equally well and have earned quite name as established content management systems. If you are, too, thinking why drupal, before going into any details must keep in mind that the world’s leading organizations like the UN, Forbes, the Discovery Channel, AOL, Warner Brothers Records and even Yahoo are using Drupal websites. And it indicates that it has something which makes it a preferable tool for the world’s leading organizations.

Many drupal experts say that Drupal can be the best pick for those who want to develop some SEO-based website development projects. As it allows you to get precise control over your website URL structure and you can find the same in WordPress and you are bound to one kind of permalink URL for all your posts.

Similarly, with the available Views Modules and CCK or Conten Construction Kit, you are able to develop new types of content and you need not writing some code to develop some advanced custom views for them.

Drupal can be configured in a way that it can save the new version of your pages whenever you edit them. So it’s easy to view or revert to the revisions whenever you want to.

Similarly, with its page title module, you can get custom control of your HTML elements and you can also get a better control over your web pages with the given Meta tags module. In other content management systems, this functionality is bit perplexing, but you will find it quite easier in Drupal. Apart from these features, Drupal has loads of other impressive features and functions that make it a must have content management system for your website.

Introduction

When it comes to Drupal, it is broadly known as a content management system that uses modules to facilitate site administrators to put in order and display dynamic website content, customize appearance and handle everyday jobs for example registration for websites requiring user names and passwords. It generally works with a range of operating systems like Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux. More importantly, Drupal requires a reliable and commendable database system for example MySQL in order to store quality-based content and settings. Interestingly anyone can create modules for Drupal effortlessly. These modules usually range from photo galleries to e-commerce systems. When it comes to Drupal’s alternatives, Joomla stands first due to its uniqueness and cost effectiveness. Today we are going to disclose some of the important pros of Drupal content management system. Read below:

Most Riveting Pros of Drupal

• It is a reliable and robust web content management system that can be efficient customized, modified, adjusted, improved, and extended with well documented API’s.
• Another important advantage of utilizing Drupal content management system is that it just separates content from presentation through the templates (PHP, xHTML and CSS).
• It offers unique and dynamic website content authoring with flexible access controls.

• Both Macintosh and Windows prop up content editing.
• Forums, blogs, newsletters, wikis, quizzes, polls, sweepstakes, and other social networking modules
• Friendly URLs – Drupal makes use of Apache’s mod_rewrite to facilitate URLs that are both user- as well as search engine-friendly that can actually help to increase your search rankings.
• Permalinks – All unique and dynamic content created in Drupal has a lasting link or “permalink” linked to it. As a result, the friendly users can easily link to content devoid of fear of broken links.
• More importantly, it enhances your search engine rankings and page views.
• Taxonomy and Tagging – This way, Drupal helps you to classify and identity hierarchical categories that can be used to tag and put in order content, as well as fields for creative web content writers and authors to apply free tags. Tagging content can really help you to improve your website organization, facilitate related content linking, and enable defining the meta-keywords that can eventually enhance your search rankings.
• Google Ajax Search Module – It just facilitates the addition of inline searches over a number of Google services (Web Search, Local Search, Video Search, Blog Search, and News Search). It involves a macro generator that would enable the interactive creation of a googleajaxsearch inline tag. Thus it would help you to create more than a few inline Google searchers.
• Platform Flexibility – Drupal was exclusively and artistically designed from the start to be multi-platform. Most importantly, Drupal can be installed on either Apache or Microsoft IIS.
• In addition, Drupal content management system can run on Linux, BSD, Solaris, Windows, and Mac OSX platforms.
• Gallery/slideshow module
• Calendar/event module
• Built-in caching
• User registration and profiles
• Out-of-box RSS feeds
• Role-based permission system
• Browser-based administration &
• Well over 1,500 more modules

Summary

Truly speaking, Drupal is such a unique, dynamic, and versatile website content management system that makes use of modules to allow site administrators to organize and display content, customize appearance and manage routine tasks efficiently. More importantly, it can immediately provide you more than a few benefits beyond your imagination. All you have to do is to make full use of Drupal so that you may be able to achieve your organizational goals and objectives successfully.

When it comes to their differences, these are quite prominent in front of the general mass over the World Wide Web. All you need to do is pay a close attention to their real and clear-cut differences so that you may be able to distinguish them properly. Let’s discuss Joomla, WordPress, and Drupal differences step-by-step:

Joomla

joomla website design

When it comes to Joomla, it provides you a platform to efficiently publish and display the optimized website content over the World Wide Web. More importantly, it has plenty of unique features and elements for example:

Caching

RSS feeds

Printable web pages

News flashes

Blogs Polls

Search

Language internationalization support

It is designer plus developer friendly because it presents a wider and extensive platform for developers to customize and bring in new features in the system and the potential to get better the look and feel of the custom website is absolutely broadly accepted by designers worldwide. Moreover, it is capable of handling a colossal group of people and has been in proper use since 2008 and 2009.

But the fact of the matter is that Joomla still needs a lot of improvement as well as improvisation when it comes to comparison with WordPress and Drupal. It is not XHTML based and absolutely lacks the option to create multisite.

WordPress

wordpress website design

There is no denying that WordPress is the most efficient and useful content management system (CMS) worldwide. Therefore it would regularly support you when it comes to blogging and publishing your website content. Interestingly it is being regularly used by almost 202 millions websites these days. It has plenty of unique and versatile features for instance

Widgets that can be approved without editing the HTML

Search engine friendly

Multiple categories to a blog post

Allows tagging of blog postings and articles

Although it has many blogging options and profiles but it is not as much effective content management system (CMS) as the others are. Moreover it is not a Developer friendly content management system and it just brings more and more bugs with its new upgrades. But the best advantage of using WordPress CMS is that it is very trouble free to use.

Drupal

drupal website design

As far as Drupal CMS is concerned, it is a back end system used for managing a range of corporate websites worldwide. Besides, Drupal can be efficiently used for managing both small business websites as well as large business websites globally. It has plenty of features and elements for instance:

Registering and Maintaining user accounts

Creating and Handling menus

RSS feeds

Customization of a layout

Internet Forum

Single or multi User blog

Powerful template system

The amazing thing about Drupal content management system is that it is every developer’s heaven worldwide. But when it comes to Drupal’s drawbacks, it is not as much user friendly CMS as the other systems are. But this is the fact most renowned websites are nowadays making use of Drupal for effective and dynamic content management for example, MTV UK, BBC, the Onion, Greenpeace UK and so on.

Acquia announced recently they were releasing a new tool called Drupal Gardens that makes it easier to create websites using the popular open source Drupal platform. In a recent blog post Acquia VP of Marketing, Lynne Capozzi wrote about how, rightly or wrongly, some people are intimidated by the idea of building a website using a tool like Drupal.

It’s great for the power users who can build an understanding of how site building in Drupal works, but Drupal Gardens puts this in the hands of less technical end users. It provides an easy path to creating the site, then choosing a theme (either provided or one you create on your own), color schemes, fonts and so forth.

Of course, you can control all of these elements in the Drupal design process regardless of whether you are using a front-end tool or not, but Drupal Gardens makes it relatively easy to build sites and choose site elements within a framework. Acquia believes giving users this flexibility will make it more likely that companies will choose Drupal.

Capozzi says that it will also help companies build marketing campaigns much more quickly:

“There are so many applications of Drupal Gardens I’m anxious to see incorporated into marketing campaigns, but one I believe will really excite my fellow marketers is the ability to quickly and easily create slick, feature-rich microsites for a campaign. Marketers are focused on building targeted audiences and social communities and so many of them see microsites as the primary launching pad for brand and loyalty building.”

We will see how well this tool works for this purpose, but it does clearly put Drupal Site Design within reach of a much broader set of users. The product is currently in private beta.
